The default scale is the scale that will automatically be selected whenever you have a choice in selecting a scale. Usually the default scale is set to the primary scale you model in. Before you can choose a default scale, it must already exist in the Scale List. To add the scale, see How to Create a List.
To choose a default scale for the currently active database, go to the Main Menu, click Files | Preferences, then click on the Current Database Tab.
To select a default scale, click the drop down arrow
next to the Scale Box to get a list of scales to choose from. If you don't want a default scale, then choose (None) from the list.
You can use the arrow keys on your keyboard (
or 
) to move up or down through the list. If the scale you want is not visible, you can type the first character of the scale to easily move closer to it, then click the scale.See also The List Editor.
